University of Missouri-St. Louis junior forward Almin Sabotic (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville/Meramec CC) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. Sabotic recorded 11 points last week; helping the Tritons post three wins.
In a non-conference match with regional-foe Upper Iowa on Tuesday, Sabotic assisted on David Schwer’s game-winning goal in the 50th minute. The Tritons went on to top visiting Upper Iowa, 2-0.
Sabotic returned on Friday to post a pair of goals, including the game-winning tally in UMSL’s 3-1 win at Kentucky Wesleyan. He netted the game-winning goal in the 50th minute against the Panthers, scoring on an assist from Mike McCarthy. Sabotic added his second goal of the contest in the 61st minute on an assist from Jordan Bruce.
In the Tritons’ 3-1 win at Southern Indiana on Sunday, Sabotic notched a hat trick against the Eagles. He scored the first goal of the match in the seventh minute unassisted and then added the game-winning goal in the 47th minute on assists from Bruce and Evan Schumacher. Following a second-half goal by the Eagles to pull within one, Sabotic iced the contest in the 88th minute on an assist from McCarthy.
For the week, Sabotic had 11 points on five goals and an assist. He finished the three matches with 14 shots, including eight on goal.
Sabotic now has a team-high17 points on eight goals and an assist this season. He ranks first for the Tritons and sixth in the GLVC in goals scored and is 10th in the league in points.
Missouri-St. Louis (8-5-2) improved to 6-4-2 in conference play and will close the regular season with home matches against Northern Kentucky and Bellarmine.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Lewis’ Aloiso Barros, Northern Kentucky’s Steven Beattie, Quincy’s Jack Wedemeier, Rockhurst’s Mark Magee and UIndy’s Max Marsh.
