INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Quincy University’s Joel Box (Rockford, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The senior forward guided the No. 10 Hawks to wins over Kentucky Wesleyan and No. 5 Southern Indiana last week.
In Quincy’s 81-72 win over Kentucky Wesleyan on Jan. 11, Box posted 14 points, eight rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals. He was 7-of-14 (.500) from the field on the night.
Box returned on Jan. 13 to deliver the game-winning shot in the Hawks’ 76-74 overtime victory against visiting Southern Indiana. He finished the contest with 24 points on 11-of-18 (.611) shooting and added nine rebounds, six blocked shots four assists and three steals.
For the week, Box averaged 19 points, 8.5 rebounds, four blocked shots, four assists and 2.5 steals per game.
He is averaging 14.4 points and a team-best 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 blocked shots per game.
Quincy has won five straight games to improve to 14-2 overall. The Hawks sit alone atop the GLVC West Division standings with a 7-1 conference mark.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Jamie Jackson, Drury’s Collins Harris, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Jeff Fahnbulleh, Indianapolis’ Scott Strahm, Rockhurst’s John Torson, Southern Indiana’s Richard Sullivan and UW-Parkside’s Kyle Clark.
