University of Southern Indiana senior center Mohamed Ntumba (Zinshasa, Congo/Mama Zoya) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Ntumba led the Screaming Eagles to three victories last week including a win over St. Catharine and at conference-foe Saint Joseph’s.
The Eagles opened the week with a 105-76 win against visiting Harris-Stowe on Wednesday in the first game of the Bill Joergens Memorial Tournament. He posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the field. Ntumba also posted two blocked shots and an assist in the victory.
In USI’s 65-64 win over St. Catharine’s, the 15th-ranked team in NAIA, Ntumba had a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Eagles. He was 7-of-14 from the field and added an assist and two steals.
Ntumba capped the week by tallying 13 points and a season-high 13 rebounds in USI’s 58-53 win at Saint Joseph’s on Sunday. Ntumba was 5-of-9 from the field and also had two assists, two blocked shots and a steal.
On the week, Ntumba posted three double-doubles and averaged 15.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals per game. He shot 54.5 percent from the field and converted 9-of-14 free throw attempts.
Ntumba has a league-best six double-doubles on the season, leads the GLVC in blocked shots per game (1.18) and is second in the conference in rebounds per game (8.5). He ranks eighth in the GLVC in field goal percentage (59.0) and is 19th in scoring (13.4).
No. 12 USI (10-1) has won five straight games and is second in the GLVC East Division at 2-1 in league play. The Eagles will visit Illinois-Springfield on Tuesday before hosting Maryville and Missouri S&T this weekend.
