University of Indianapolis senior guard Darius Adams (Decatur, Ill./MacArthur/Lincoln College) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Adams led the Greyhounds to a 2-0 record during the period of Jan. 10-16 as UIndy picked up conference wins over Missouri S&T and Lewis.
In UIndy’s 93-63 win over visiting Missouri S&T on Thursday, Adams scored a game-high 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting. He also posted four assists, three steals and a pair of rebounds in the win.
He helped the Greyhounds extend their winning streak to ten games with an 83-81 overtime victory at Lewis on Saturday. In the road win, Adams secured his second double-double in four games by pouring in 34 points and pulling down a career-high 17 rebounds. It marked the second time this season Adams has scored at least 30 points and the 17 rebounds marked the most for a Greyhound since Brad Borgman tallied 17 in 2000.
Adams thrived in the second half and overtime period by scoring 25 points and grabbing 10 rebounds after halftime. He was 12-of-31 from the field and also had four assists.
On the week, Adams averaged 27.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He has now scored in double figures in every game this season and 24 straight games dating back to the 2009-10 season.
Adams is averaging 24.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game this season. He leads the GLVC in scoring and steals per game and also ranks in the top ten in assists per game, free throw percentage (88.2%) and three-point field goals made per game (2.5).
UIndy (13-3) had its ten-game winning streak snapped at home against No. 2 Bellarmine on Monday and is now 6-2 in the GLVC East Division. The Greyhounds will complete this week’s schedule with road games at No. 18 Kentucky Wesleyan and No. 6 Southern Indiana.
