INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.University of Indianapolis’ Jessica Canary (Coatesville, Ind.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The freshman guard guided the Greyhounds to wins over Quincy and GLVC West Division leader SIU Edwardsville.

In UIndy’s 64-36 win over Quincy on Jan. 18, Canary was perfect from the floor (3-for-3) and finished with nine points, two rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal. She was 1-for-1 from the three-point line and converted both free throw attempts.

Canary posted a career-high 15 points in UIndy’s 69-55 win over SIU Edwardsville on Jan. 20. She was 6-of-10 (.600) from the field and collected seven rebounds, three assists and a steal in the victory.
 
On the week, Canary shot 69.2 percent from the field and averaged 12 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. She is averaging 5.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
 
UIndy improved to 11-5 overall with the wins and is 5-4 in the GLVC.
 
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Kentucky Wesleyan’s LaTasha Henry, Lewis’ Darcee Schmidt, Quincy’s Jessica Keller, Rockhurst’s Chelsea Barnett and SIU Edwardsville’s Whitney Sykes.
