University of Southern Indiana senior center Mohamed Ntumba (Kinshasa, Congo/Mama Zoya) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Ntumba paced the Eagles in a pair of GLVC victories last week.
In USI’s 75-71 win over visiting Lewis on Thursday, Ntumba scored a team-high 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field. He also pulled down six rebounds and added two blocked shots, a steal and an assist in the victory. Ntumba netted four of the Eagles’ last five points in the contest to secure the win.
On Saturday, in the Eagles’ 93-81 win over visiting Wisconsin-Parkside, Ntumba posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. He was 8-of-11 from the field and notched another blocked shot.
For the week, Ntumba averaged 21.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. He shot 78.3 percent from the field (18-23) and 85.7 percent from the free throw line (6-7).
Ntumba is ranked second in the GLVC in both blocked shots (1.75 per game) and rebounding (8.5) and is fifth in the league in field goal percentage (61.2). He is averaging 13.9 points per game this season.
USI (18-2) has won 13 of its last 14 contests and is now 10-2 in GLVC play. The Eagles will return to action at Rockhurst and Missouri-St. Louis this weekend.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Braydon Hobbs, Drury’s JaJuan Maxwell, Indianapolis’ Darius Adams, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Cardell McFarland, Lewis’ Chris McClellan and Maryville’s Asa Toney.
