INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Quincy University’s Joel Box (Rockford, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The 6-foot-9 senior forward led the No. 18 Hawks to wins over Drury and Rockhurst last week.
In Quincy’s 74-67 win over Rockhurst on Jan. 25, Box posted 11 points and eight rebounds. He added an assist and steal in the win and finished 5-of-9 (.555) from the field.
He returned in the Hawks’ 78-74 win over Drury on Jan. 27 to post career-highs in points and rebounds. Box netted 31 points on 12-of-19 (.632) shooting and was perfect from the free throw line (7-7). He also pulled down 12 rebounds and collected six blocked shots in the victory.
For the week, Box averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and an assist. He is averaging 14.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season.
Quincy improved to 16-4 overall this season with the wins last week and is in first place in the GLVC West Division with a 9-3 conference record.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Brandon Kimbrough, Indianapolis’ Justin Barnard, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Rodney Edgerson, Lewis’ Jason Genova, Missouri-St. Louis’ David Ward, Northern Kentucky Kevin Schappell, Rockhurst’s Kevin Martin, SIU Edwardsville’s Mike Hardiek, Southern Indiana’s Melvin Hall and UW-Parkside’s LaVontay Fenderson.
