Missouri S&T senior forward Fareedah Washington (Forrest City, Ark./Forrest City) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Washington nearly averaged a double-double while helping the Miners pull out a double-overtime win against Northern Kentucky and overtime win against Bellarmine.
In the 67-60 double-overtime win against the visiting Norse on Friday, Washington scored nine points, pulled down 13 rebounds and added four assists. She scored seven of her nine points and had six of her 13 rebounds in the deciding overtime period.
Washington returned on Sunday to pace the Miners to a 62-57 overtime victory against visiting Bellarmine. She grabbed a career-high 23 rebounds and scored nine points in the win. Washington converted the go-ahead bucket in the overtime session and also added two blocked shots, two steals and an assist.
In the two contests, Washington shot 50 percent from the field (7-14) and 80 percent from the free throw line (4-5). She averaged 9.0 points, 18.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.0 block and 1.0 steal per game.
Washington is averaging 9.0 points per game this season while leading the team with 6.9 rebounds and 0.8 blocked shots per game. She ranks second in the GLVC in field goal percentage (58.2) and eighth in both rebounding and blocked shots.
S&T (17-5), who has won three straight overtime games, is tied atop the GLVC West Division with an 11-3 conference record. The Miners will next travel to Maryville and Drury.
