Lewis University senior guard Dennis Thomas, Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Thomas guided the Flyers to a pair of league victories last week and helped Lewis clinch at least a share of the GLVC North Division title.

In Lewis’ 83-57 win over Saint Joseph’s on Thursday, Thomas poured in 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting. He was 2-of-3 from three-point range and also converted 6-of-8 free throws in the victory. Thomas added two rebounds, two assists and a steal.

On Saturday, Thomas tallied a game-high 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting as Lewis knocked off Wisconsin-Parkside on the road, 69-45. He had three assists and two rebounds and posted a 7-of-9 effort from the free throw line.

In the two contests, Thomas averaged 17.5 points, 2.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game. He shot 58.8 percent from the field, 50 percent from beyond the arc and 76.5 percent from the free throw line.

Thomas is averaging a team-best 17.6 points per game on the season which ranks him fifth in the league in scoring. He is adding 2.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game and also ranks among league leaders in three-point field goals made per game (1.9) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.16).

Lewis (16-11) has won four of its last five games and sits in first place in the GLVC North Division with a 9-7 league mark. The Flyers will close the regular season with road games at Quincy and Illinois-Springfield this week.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Chris Dowe, Drury’s Chris Parks, Indianapolis’ Darius Adams, Missouri S&T’s Carlton Westbrook, Quincy’s Tyler Burke, Rockhurst’s Blake Baird and Southern Indiana’s C.J. Trotter.
