Quincy University senior pitcher Torie Bunzell (Utica, Ill./LaSalle-Peru) has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Bunzell, the 2010 GLVC Pitcher of the Year, collected three wins on the weekend as the Lady Hawks topped Truman State, Fort Hays State and Northwest Missouri State. In a 5-0 win over Truman State on Saturday, Bunzell struck out 15 in the four-hit shutout.
She returned in the first game on Sunday to allow just one earned run and rack up 17 strikeouts in Quincy’s 4-3 12-inning win over Fort Hays State. In the nightcap on Sunday, Bunzell recorded 15 strikeouts in a 5-0 shutout over Northwest Missouri State. In the win, Bunzell allowed just two hits and four walks.
On the week, Bunzell posted a 0.27 earned run average by allowing just one earned run in 26 innings of work. She struck out 47 and limited her opponents to a .118 batting average.
Bunzell is 5-1 with a 0.29 ERA on the season. She has struck out 88 batters and allowed just two runs in 46 innings of work.
Quincy (7-4) will next return home for a doubleheader with McKendree on Wednesday.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Casey Willard, Indianapolis’ Jennifer DeMotte and UIS’ Tina Buck.
