Lewis University senior shortstop Richard Forkin (Orland Park, Ill./Lockport) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week.

Forkin has led the Flyers to a strong start this season as he batted .391 with 10 RBIs, two runs and a double in the their first seven games on the year.

In Lewis’ 6-2 win over Mary on Feb. 28, Forkin was 4-for-4 with five RBIs and a walk. He returned later in the week to go 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run in Lewis’ 22-2 win over Mary on Mar. 4.

In seven games in Florida, Forkin belted nine hits and is currently riding a five-game hitting streak.

Lewis (5-2) will return to action this weekend in a three-game series at Christian Brothers in Memphis, Tenn.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Indianapolis’ Matt Maringer and Northern Kentucky’s Zac Asman.
