Northern Kentucky University senior pitcher April Ehlers (Greenville, Ind./Floyd Central) has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Ehlhers helped the Norse surge to the top of the GLVC standings as NKU swept road doubleheaders at Rockhurst and Quincy over the weekend. For the week, Ehlers posted a 4-1 record in the circle with a 1.58 earned run average, 46 strikeouts and a no-hitter in 31 innings of work.
She opened the week with a 5-1 loss to Minnesota State on Monday but quickly rebounded by tossing four innings in NKU’s 6-5 win over California on Wednesday and then collecting a no-hitter in a 3-0 victory over Ferris State in the nightcap. Against Ferris State, Ehlers fanned 14 and walked just two to earn her second career no-hitter.
Ehlers returned on Saturday to lead NKU to a 9-5 win at Rockhurst in the day’s first game. In the victory, she allowed two earned runs and struck out 11 in six innings.
In Saturday’s 4-2 win at Quincy, Ehlers allowed just three hits and two earned runs while striking out 13 to earn her fourth victory in five days.
On the year, Ehlers is 6-4 with a 1.38 ERA and 94 strikeouts.
NKU (11-7) is 4-0 in the GLVC and alone atop the league standings. They have won six straight and will host Drury and Missouri S&T this weekend.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Quincy’s Torie Bunzell and  Southern Indiana’s Madeline Brink.
