University of Southern Indiana senior pitcher Tyler Choate (Carmi, Ill./Carmi-White) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Choate led the Screaming Eagles to a 5-0 week by collecting two wins on the mound including his first complete game since undergoing elbow surgery one year ago.
In USI’s 5-2 win over Wayne State on Tuesday, Choate allowed just five hits and two runs in seven innings of work. He struck out six and did not record a walk in the outing.
On Sunday, Choate scattered four hits in a nine-inning 4-0 shutout of visiting St. Cloud State. He only allowed two runners beyond second base and did not walk anyone against the Huskies who entered the contest with a 10-1 record.
In the two games, Choate posted a 1.12 earned run average, allowed nine hits, struck out six and did not walk a batter in 16 innings of work. He is 3-0 on the mound this season with a 2.16 ERA in five appearances.
USI (8-5) has won six straight games and will open conference play at Missouri S&T and Drury this weekend.
