INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Indianapolis’ Amy Schmitz (Normal, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Female Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week. The sophomore posted NCAA provisional marks in the 20-pound weight throw and shot put at the Gladstein Invitational held in Bloomington, Indiana on Jan. 26-27.
 
Schmitz improved upon her provisional mark in the 20-pound weight throw at the event hosted by Indiana University with a toss of 16.46 meters. She finished in ninth place at the event which featured a new world record set by winner Brittany Riley of Southern Illinois.
 
In the shot put, Schmitz set a personal best with a provisional qualifying mark of 13.30 meters.
 
She currently ranks second in both events on the GLVC Indoor Performance lists.
 
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Tuma Malenga, SIU Edwardsville’s Juliet Alrich and Southern Indiana’s Allison Shafer.
