University of Indianapolis senior pitcher Cory Rupert (Southport, Ind./Southport) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Rupert helped the Greyhounds begin conference play with a 4-0 mark by tossing a complete-game shutout in the weekend opener against Maryville on Saturday.

In the nine-inning 7-0 win, Rupert allowed just three hits and struck out four. He faced just four batters over the minimum and only one runner reached second base on the afternoon.

On the season, Rupert is 3-0 with a 1.74 earned run average. In three appearances, Rupert has allowed just four earned runs on eight hits and he has recorded 18 strikeouts. He has held his opponents to a .119 batting average which leads the league and he ranks second in the GLVC in ERA.

UIndy (11-1) is one of three teams tied for first place in the GLVC East Division. The Greyhounds will continue league play at Illinois-Springfield and Quincy this weekend.  

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Kyle Dyer, Lewis’ Ben Albano, Missouri S&T’s Chris Bowe, Northern Kentucky’s Matt Jefferson and Southern Indiana’s  Trevor Leach.
