Rockhurst University senior outfielder Ben Baker (Gladstone, Mo./St. Pius X) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week.
Baker, the Hawks’ righfielder, led Rockhurst to a 3-1 overall record last week as he batted .583 with a .917 slugging percentage.
In Rockhurst’s 10-6 win over Ottawa on Wednesday, Baker was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
The Hawks swept 27th-ranked Northern Kentucky on Sunday as Baker combined to go 5-for-7 with two RBIs, three runs scored and three doubles. He was 3-for-4 with three doubles and two runs scored in the Hawks’ 7-6 win in the first game and he was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs in the nightcap.
For the week, Baker was 7-for-12 with three runs, seven RBIs, four doubles and three walks.
Rockhurst (7-5) has won four of its last five and is in second place in the GLVC West Division with a 2-1 league record. The Hawks will host Newman on Tuesday before resuming league play at Southern Indiana and Kentucky Wesleyan this weekend.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Caleb Cole, Indianapolis’ Kaleb Cunningham, Lewis’ Ben Albano, Missouri S&T’s Grant Brasher, Quincy’s Adam Cunningham, Southern Indiana’s Jarrod Rose and Wisconsin-Parkside’s Dave Lojeski.
