SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - University of Illinois-Springfield junior pitcher Aubrey Watson (Auburn, Ill./Auburn) has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Watson helped the Prairie Stars earn a sweep over visiting Quincy on Saturday as she pitched an eight-inning shutout in UIS’ 1-0 win in the opener. In the contest, Watson allowed just five hits and struck out two. She did not allow a run on the afternoon to earn her first career shutout.

Watson, who ranks sixth in the GLVC in earned run average (1.84), is 1-1 on the season. She has struck out 21 in 12 appearances and ranks second on the team in innings pitched (26.2).

UIS (6-16) is 2-4 in the GLVC this season. The Prairie Stars will square off with Saint Joseph’s, Robert Morris, Drury and Rockhurst this week.
