Quincy University senior Torie Bunzell (Utica, Ill./LaSalle-Peru) has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Bunzell posted a no-hitter and a perfect game in the same day on Saturday as the Lady Hawks swept visiting Rockhurst. She helped Quincy to a 3-1 record on the week by collecting all three victories and allowing just one hit in 22 innings of work.
On Friday, Bunzell recorded a one-hit shutout in Quincy’s 6-0 win over Lindenwood. She struck out 16 batters and walked just two in the victory.
She recorded her eighth career no-hitter in the first game on Saturday against Rockhurst by striking out 17 and walking just one in the Lady Hawks’ 1-0 win.
Bunzell returned in the nightcap to go eight innings and notched her second career perfect game as she posted 13 strikeouts in Quincy’s 1-0 extra-inning victory.
This season, Bunzell is 14-5 with a 0.57 earned run average. She has 16 double-digit strikeout games in her 19 appearances and has a total of 251 strikeouts in 135 innings pitched. Bunzell is currently fifth all-time on the NCAA Division II career strikeout list.
Quincy (18-9) is 8-4 in league play and will host Lincoln on Tuesday before traveling to Missouri S&T and Drury this weekend.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Illinois-Springfield’s Aubrey Watson, Indianapolis’ Jennifer DeMotte, Lewis’ Diana Pickrum, Maryville’s Julie Jouglard and Northern Kentucky’s Chelsie Roy.
