INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.Northern Kentucky University’s Cassie Brannen (Cincinnati, Ohio) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The sophomore post player helped the Norse claim two road wins last week.
 
In Northern Kentucky’s 52-49 win at Drury on Feb. 1, Brannen scored 11 points on 5-of-9 (.566) shooting. She collected seven rebounds and four blocked shots in the victory. NKU was the first GLVC team to collect a conference win over Drury at Weiser Gym.
 
Brannen posted 12 points in the Norse’s 93-41 victory at Rockhurst on Feb. 3. She was 4-of-6 (.566) from the field and 4-of-5 (.800) from the free-throw line and also grabbed seven rebounds. She scored 10 of her 12 points in the first half, helping the Norse to a 28-point halftime lead. Brannen also had three assists and a steal in the win.
 
For the week, Brannen averaged 11.5 points and seven rebounds. She is averaging 8.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots per game this season.
 
Northern Kentucky has reeled off eight straight wins and is 15-5 overall. The Norse, 9-4 in the GLVC, are second in the GLVC East Division.
 
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Dana Beaven, Drury’s Molly Carter, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Latasha Henry, Lewis’ Darcee Schmidt, Missouri-Rolla’s Maggie Thompson, Quincy’s Jenny Wisser and UW-Parkside’s Ashley Ferguson.
