University of Southern Indiana senior designated hitter Tyler Choate (Carmi, Ill./Carmi-White City) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week, respectively.
Choate led the Screaming Eagles to a pair of victories over host Lewis on Sunday. He was 5-for-7 in the two contests which included four home runs. He recorded seven runs and 10 RBIs in addition to walking four times and stealing a base.
In Southern Indiana’s 11-10 win over Lewis on Sunday, Choate was 2-for-2 with two home runs, four runs scored, three RBIS and three walks.
He paced the Eagles in the second game by connecting on a first-inning grand slam and finished the contest 3-for-5 with three runs, seven RBIS, two home runs, a walk and stolen base. USI took the nightcap, 20-4.
Choate is batting .330 on the season with 32 RBIs, 28 runs scored, 10 doubles and five home runs.
USI (23-9) is in first place in the GLVC East Division standings with a 15-3 league record. The Eagles will visit Kentucky Wesleyan and host UW-Parkside this week.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Kal Scheler, Drury’s Courtney Spitz, Indianapolis’ Aryn Ross, Northern Kentucky’s Brian Erie and Rockhurst’s Ryan Porter.
