Lewis University junior Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia, Audentese) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. Lapimaa was a perfect 6-0 in dual match competition last week helping the Flyers secure the No. 3 seed in the GLVC East Division.
In Lewis’ 8-1 win over St. Francis in non-conference competition, Lapimaa defeated Mark Zubov, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. He teamed with Tonis Irdoja to grab an 8-2 win over Jacob Quigley and Jakub Szymanski.
Lapimaa, ranked 47th nationally at No. 1 singles, defeated Martin Leroy of Northern Kentucky on Friday, 6-4, 6-4. He and Irdoja also collected a victory against the Norse at No. 1 doubles with a 9-7 decision over Leroy and Guillaume Berman.
On Saturday, Lewis defeated Bellarmine, 8-1, as Lapimaa defeated Jacob Knagenhjelm, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. At No. 1 doubles, Lapimaa and Irdoja defeated Knagenhjelm and Carlos Antonioli, 8-1.
On the season, Lapimaa has compiled a 23-1 overall record in singles competition this season, including a 15-0 mark in dual matches at No. 1 singles. He and Irdoja, ranked 31st in the nation, have posted a 10-3 mark at No. 1 doubles.
Lewis (11-4) finished 3-2 in the GLVC East Division and will face Rockhurst in the first round of the GLVC Men’s Tennis Tournament on Friday.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Andy Blair, Indianapolis’ Alex Poe, Northern Kentucky’s Guillaume Berman and Rockhurst’s Ben Newell.
