Lewis University junior Karissa Habel (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Habel led the Flyers to a 2-2 record on the week by going 1-0 in the circle which included a nine-inning no-hitter of Bellarmine on Sunday.
She opened the week by leading the Flyers to a 4-3 win at Northern Kentucky. She scattered eight hits and allowed three runs while striking out five batters.
In the no-hitter at Bellarmine on Sunday, Habel recorded six strikeouts and walked just two. It marked her first career no-hitter.
On the week, Habel was 1-0 with a 1.31 earned run average and 11 strikeouts in 16 innings of work. She is 11-3 on the season with a 2.42 EAR and 55 strikeouts.
Lewis (30-11) finished the regular season with a 19-5 league record. The Flyers earned the No. 2 seed for the upcoming GLVC Tournament and will face No. 7 seed Drury on Friday.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Casey Willard, Indianapolis’ Jennifer DeMotte, Maryville’s Julie Jouglard and Quincy’s Torie Bunzell.
