Northern Kentucky University sophomore forward Mohammad Salhieh (Springfield, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. Salhieh tallied six points as top-ranked Northern Kentucky ran its record to 4-0 overall with two wins last week.
NKU defeated Kentucky Wesleyan by a 12-0 count on Friday night and returned on Sunday to beat host Southern Indiana, 3-2.
In the win over visiting Kentucky Wesleyan, Salhieh registered six points on a goal and four assists. He played a role in each of NKU’s first five goals on the evening.
He registered assists on the game-winning goal by Ian O’Reilly in the 34th minute and also helped key Tommy Barrick’s tally in the 41st minute.
Salhieh added a goal in the 53rd minute after converting a rebound of his own shot and then assisted on Ben Rascona’s goals in the 56th and 57th minutes.
His four assists on the night tied the single-match school record achieved last season by Steven Beattie.
On the season, Salhieh has a team-best 10 points on three goals and four assists.
NKU improved to 2-0 in the GLVC with the victories and will host William Jewell and Rockhurst this weekend.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Blake Hunter, Indianapolis’ Wesley Oliver, Missouri-St. Louis’ Tim Boruff, Quincy’s Jeff Vaninger and Rockhurst’s Mark Magee.
