Bellarmine University junior outside hitter Paula Byrns (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry) is the Baden/Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. Byrns helped the Knights to a pair of league road wins last week by averaging 5.43 points per set.
In Bellarmine’s sweep at Rockhurst on Saturday, Byrns, who recently switched from middle to outside hitter, tallied 13 kills, five digs, an assist and finished with a .281 hitting percentage.
On Sunday, Byrns returned to guide the Knights to a 3-1 win at William Jewell. She collected a career-high 24 kills in the win and posted a .476 hitting percentage. Byrns also recorded 12 digs, an ace and assist in the victory.
For the week, Byrns averaged 5.29 kills and 2.43 digs per set while hitting at a .392 clip. She is averaging 3.15 points, 2.71 kills and 1.12 digs per set this season.
Bellarmine (9-6) is now 5-6 in the GLVC with the victories and will head to the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Tournament this weekend for matches with Northern Michigan, Grand Valley State and Ashland.
