INDIANAPOLIS-Southern Indiana University senior All-American Jackie Henderson (Schererville, IN/Lake Central) has been named the GLVC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. Henderson led the nationally ranked Southern Indiana women’s squad to a first place team finish out of 13 teams at the Fast Cats Classic on Saturday in their last meet before the Conference Championship.
Henderson set the pace for the Eagles as she cruised through the 5k course with a time of 18:26.60. This time earned her a first place individual finish at the event out of 107 runners. Henderson currently holds the third fastest 5k time in the GLVC, and has been named the GLVC runner of the week twice throughout the 2011 season.
Henderson’s momentum led the way for the 19th ranked Eagles who won the event while placing five runners in the top 10. The Southern Indiana squad took the top four places at the meet, and managed to score only 20 points en route to their impressive victory. Henderson and the Southern Indiana Eagles will now prepare to host the GLVC Championship on October 22.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Quincy’s Kristen Dippold, Indianapolis’ Sutton Knapp, and UW-Parkside’s Jessica Watychowicz.
