University of Wisconsin-Parkside senior midfielder Kristen Benson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. Benson notched a pair of game-winners in the Rangers’ two matches on the week.

In UW-Parkside’s 3-2 win at Lewis on Wednesday, Benson tallied the game-winning goal in the fifth minute of overtime. She scored the game-winner from 10 yards out on an assist from Shannon Becker.

On Sunday, in a GLVC Women’s Soccer Tournament quarterfinal match, Benson led the Rangers to a 2-0 victory over visiting Southern Indiana. Benson notched the game-winning goal in the 50th minute on an assist from Natalie Brown.

Benson finished the week with two goals on three shots. She now has four goals and a pair of assists on the year for 10 points.

UW-Parkside (12-2-2), the No. 3 seed in the GLVC Tournament, will face No. 2 seed Bellarmine in the semifinal round at Northern Kentucky on Friday.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Alex Kowalski, Indianapolis’ Nicole Duncan, Missouri-St. Louis’ Brittany Harbaugh, Northern Kentucky’s Laura Painter, Quincy’s Jodie Chapie and Rockhurst’s Taylor Skala.
