Kentucky Wesleyan College’s Cardell McFarland (Evansville, Ind./Bosse) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. McFarland guided the ninth-ranked Panthers to a pair of road wins in league play, connecting on late three-pointers in each contest to secure the victories.

On Thursday, in Kentucky Wesleyan’s 81-78 overtime win at Wisconsin-Parkside, McFarland canned the go-ahead three-pointer in the extra session to give the Panthers their first lead since the first half. He finished with a game-high 24 points on 8-of-17 shooting and also collected six rebounds, five steals and a pair of assists.

McFarland knocked down the game-winning three-point shot on Saturday afternoon with 1.3 seconds to play, lifting Kentucky Wesleyan to 74-71 win at Lewis. The basket capped an 8-0 run by the Panthers in the final minute of which McFarland collected six points. He tallied a game-high 28 points in the victory and was 11-of-18 from the field. McFarland connected on 4-of-7 three-point attempts and added two steals, a rebound and assist.

On the week, McFarland averaged 26.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 1.5 assists per game. He shot 54.3 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from the three-point line. McFarland also connected on 9-of-10 free throw attempts.

He is currently averaging 23.7 points, 3.5 assists and 2.2 steals per game, while shooting 63.9 percent from the field and 90.3 percent from the free throw line. McFarland ranks second in the league in scoring and is in the top ten in all five categories.

Kentucky Wesleyan (6-0) moved to 2-0 in the GLVC with the victories. The Panthers will next host Cedarville on Saturday.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Alex Hall, Illinois-Springfield’s Michael Fakuade, Indianapolis’ Adrian Moss, Missouri-St. Louis’ Troy Long, Northern Kentucky’s Ethan Faulkner, Rockhurst’s James Robinson and Southern Indiana’s Brandon Hogg.
