INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Saint Joseph’s Matt Wille (Crystal Lake, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week. The junior outfielder helped guide the Pumas to a 2-2 record over the weekend, including a win over No. 4 Montevallo.
In the Pumas’ 8-6 win over host Montevallo on Feb. 17, Wille went 4-for-5 (.800) with two doubles, two runs scored and three runs batted in. He drove in the winning run in the win and also collected his first of three steals on the weekend.
Wille returned on Feb. 18 to post a 4-for-4 day. He was 1-for-1 with three RBI in Saint Joseph’s 10-4 win over Miles in the day’s first game. In the nightcap, a 9-3 loss against Montevallo, Wille was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI.
For the week, Wille was 8-for-14 (.667) with nine RBI, four runs, three doubles, three steals and two walks. He has a slugging percentage of .833 and was also perfect in the field on eight chances.
Saint Joseph’s is 2-2 overall and will return to the diamond at Oakland City on Feb. 24.
