University of Missouri-St. Louis freshman Nils Muggenburg (Hamburg, Germany/International School Hamburg) has been named the GLVC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the first time this spring after his performances over the weekend. Muggenburg guided the Tritons to wins over divisional conference opponent Maryville and regional Truman State by going 4-0 at the No. 1 singles and doubles slot.

Muggenburg helped the UMSL squad clench a 9-0 sweep of Maryville to open conference action on Saturday. After dropping the first set, Muggenburg rallied to claim a tough three-set victory over Maryville’s Alexis de Villeneuve 4-6, 6-1, (10-6) at the No. 1 singles slot. He also teamed up with Marius Schumacher to claim a hard-fought 8-5 battle at No. 1 doubles.
Muggenburg returned Sunday to help the Tritons to a 7-2 victory over regional Truman State. He earned a 7-6, 6-4 singles win over Truman’s Eric McCollough and again paired with Schumacher to defeat McCollough and Mark Sturley 8-0.
Muggenburg moves to 10-3 on the year in singles action after this past weekend’s wins. As a team, the Tritons improve to 5-3 on the year and will return to action on Wednesday, March 28 as they take on McKendree.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Indianapolis’ Matt Smith, Quincy’s Ian Hinkamper, Lewis’ Uno Lapimaa, and Northern Kentucky’s Andre Correa.
