INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Missouri-Rolla’s Tyrone Smith (Chicago, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Male Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week. The senior athlete captured first-place in two field events and posted a season-best in the 60-meter dash at the Central Missouri Classic on Feb. 17.
Smith posted a leap of 7.54 meters to finish first in the long jump. He outdistanced teammate Jarryd Dean, who finished second in the event, by over 0.6 meters.
He also claimed first in the triple jump with a leap of 13.89 meters. His mark was 0.52 meters further than Central Missouri’s Rodney Blue.
Smith also posted a season-best time of 7.08 in the 60-meter dash. He placed ninth in the preliminary heat.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Greg Robinson, Lewis’ Geoff Rozovics, SIU Edwardsville’s Scott Block, UIndy’s Willie Little and Southern Indiana’s Paul Jellema.
