INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Lewis University’s Darcee Schmidt (Machesney Park, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The senior forward led the Flyers to two wins last week, pushing them to the best conference record in school history at 17-2.
In Lewis’ 83-58 win over UW-Parkside on Feb. 20, Schmidt posted 17 points moving her to the top of the school’s all-time scoring list. She was 7-for-14 (.500) from the field and also added five rebounds, an assist and blocked shot.
She returned in the Flyers’ 92-80 win at Kentucky Wesleyan to break the school’s single-season scoring record. Schmidt finished with 30 points on the night, giving her 608 points on the year. She was 9-for-16 (.563) from the field and 10-for-12 (.833) from the free-throw line in the victory. Schmidt also tallied seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
For the week, Schmidt, who has tallied 30 or more points seven times this season, averaged 23.5 points, six rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. She is averaging a league-best 22.5 points and leading her team with 7.4 rebounds per game.
Lewis has set a school record with an overall mark of 24-3. The Flyers captured the GLVC East Division title and are the top seed in the East for the upcoming GLVC Tournament. Lewis will meet Southern Indiana in the quarterfinals on March 2.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Molly Carter, Kentucky Wesleyan’s LaTasha Henry, Quincy’s Jessica Keller, Rockhurst’s Courtney Farmer, SIU Edwardsville’s Whitney Sykes and UIndy’s Amanda Norris.
