INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Rockhurst University’s Kelli Vanderwell (Olathe, Kan.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week. The sophomore shortstop helped the Hawks capture two wins at the Evangel Early Bird Tournament in Springfield, Missouri over the weekend.
Vanderwell hit .667 (4-for-6) in three games and finished the weekend with a slugging percentage of 1.333. She was 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs scored in the Hawks’ 3-1 win over Oklahoma Baptist on Feb. 23.
In the second game of the day, the sophomore shortstop went 2-for-2 with a double, home run and four runs batted in. She also walked once and scored twice in the Hawks’ 8-0 win over Southwest Baptist.
She completed her week with a 1-for-3 effort in Rockhurst’s 3-2 loss to Midland Lutheran.
For the week, she tallied four RBI, four runs, a double and home run.
Rockhurst (2-1) will travel to Springfield on March 2-3 for the Show Me Games.
Other top performances in the GLVC last week included Missouri-Rolla’s Nicole Naughton, Missouri-St. Louis’ Alex Pepin and Casey Moran (pitcher), Northern Kentucky’s Rose Broderick and UW-Parkside’s Alea McNellis.
