Lewis University’s Lauren Bowles has earned the Great Lakes Valley Conference’s first Player of the Week honor for the 2012 women’s soccer campaign. The sophomore midfielder totaled seven points on the week while helping the Flyers to a pair of victories.
A native of Libertyville, Ill., Bowles opened the season Thursday with a goal and an assist in the Flyers’ 2-1 overtime win over Saginaw Valley State. Her goal was her lone attempt at the cage for the game.
On Sunday, she tallied half of her team’s goals, as two of her four shots found the back of the net in a 4-1 win over Tiffin. One of her goals was a header off of a corner kick by Fran Abate.
Bowles’ honor is the Flyers first weekly accolade since Allison Wilkerson was selected by the league on Oct. 19, 2004.
