Mary Biermann helped take volleyball in the GLVC to another level as head coach at Northern Kentucky. In 12 seasons with the Norse, Biermann posted a 286-106 record prior to retiring following the 2000 season. She guided NKU to four consecutive GLVC Championships in her final four years at the reins of the Norse volleyball program and collected five league titles in all. Biermann, who was named the GLVC Coach of the Year five times, earned four NCAA Tournament bids with the Norse and a pair of NCAA regional championships. NKU captured the NCAA regional crown in 1998 and advanced to the Elite Eight. The Norse defended the regional title and advanced to the national semifinals for the first time in school history in 1999.  Biermann’s 1999 squad posted a 33-2 record which is the best record in the program’s history.
