Tyrone Smith was a three-time All-Conference honoree and five-time GLVC Champion in jumping events, including three conference titles in the long jump (indoors in 2006 and 2007, outdoors in 2006) and a pair of indoor league crowns in the triple jump (2006 and 2007).  In addition, he had finishes of third in the 55-meters at the 2006 indoor championships, second in the triple jump and third in the 100-meter dash at the 2006 GLVC outdoor meet and fifth in the 55-meter dash at the 2007 indoor championships.  Smith was the national runner-up in the outdoor long jump at the 2006 NCAA Division II Championships after placing fourth at the indoor national meet earlier in the year.  A year later, Smith finished second again at the NCAA indoor meet and concluded his career as the school’s record holder in the long jump for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Following his career at Missouri S&T, Smith went on to compete on the international circuit and has qualified for the last two Olympic Games as a representative of his native Bermuda.  At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Smith finished in 15th place – missing the finals by just three centimeters.  He returned to make the finals in the 2012 Olympics in London and finished 12th overall.
