FAYETTE, IOWA – Junior Jack McKenna scored two goals in a 45-second span to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer team to a 3-1 victory at Upper Iowa in non-conference action Monday afternoon.
The win moves the Tritons to 6-5-2 on the season, which equals last year’s win total with four regular season games remaining on the schedule. Upper Iowa falls to 5-8-1 with the loss.
McKenna, who leads the Tritons with five goals this season, gave UMSL a 2-0 lead at the 63:47 mark on a shot from 10 yards out into an empty net. McKenna then scored at the 64:29 mark on another shot from 10 yards out. Senior Chris Clark recorded the assist on McKenna’s first goal.
Senior Blair Spencer tallied the first score of the game, putting the ball into the back of the net off a free kick by sophomore Johnny O’Mara in the 25th minute.
Upper Iowa scored in the 80th minute for the final score.
UMSL held a 12-11 advantage in shots, including an 8-6 edge in shots on goal. Sophomore keeper Tim Boruff played 78:22 in betweent the posts, recording five saves, while freshman Adam Giesegh played the final 11:38, allowing the lone Peacocks goal.
The Tritons return to the field Friday, hosting Southern Indiana in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
