Quincy Volleyball Tops UIS, 3-2

QUINCY, Ill.- The Quincy University women's volleyball team held on for a 3-2 win at home over the University of Illinois-Springfield and in doing so snapped their five match losing streak.

Quincy breezed to wins in the match's first two games but had to hold off a late charging Illinois-Springfield who pushed the match to five games. Quincy won the first two games 25-21 and 25-20 before Illinois-Springfield responded by winning games three and four by the scores of 25-19 and 25-16.

Quincy jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the fifth game but Illinois-Springfield came back to tie it at 10-10 after the court change. The Lady Hawks were finally able to finish off the Prairie Stars 15-11 in the game and take the match for their third win of the season.

Quincy hit .217 in the match while Illinois-Springfield hit .232. The Lady Hawks were led by the duo of Katie Ebbing and Christine Williams with Ebbing finishing with 22 kills and Williams adding 23. Lyndsay Kooi led the way with 58 assists while Lauren Ketchum and Williams each added 11 digs. Quincy improves to 3-15 overall and 2-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. They return to action tomorrow night at home when they host Maryville University at 7 p.m. Tomorrow's match will also be "Dig Pink" night where the Lady Hawks will be selling special t-shirts and taking donations to help raise money for the Cure for Cancer.
