HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Sarah Drennen recorded 10 kills, four service aces and attacked at a .714 clip as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team rolled to a 25-12, 25-14, 25-21 win against Quincy on Sunday.
Noelle Peterson added 13 kills and hit .409 for NKU, which improved to 19-10 overall, 9-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse served up 17 aces and finished with a .352 hitting percentage to easily close out their home schedule with a victory.
Kylee Tarantino and Chelsea Clark each served up four aces for NKU, while Kelly Morrissey and Kim Nemcek both added two aces. The Norse attacked at a .565 clip in the first set and cruised past the Lady Hawks, who dropped to 6-20 overall, 3-9 in the GLVC. NKU is now 23-1 all-time against Quincy.
Nemcek finished with six kills and 11 digs, while setter Jenna Schreiver dished out 31 assists for the Norse. NKU needs just one victory to clinch its 17th consecutive 20-win season.
NKU travels to Rolla, Mo., on Friday to meet Missouri S&T. The Norse conclude the regular season next Saturday with a match at Missouri-St. Louis.
NKU begins play at the GLVC Tournament Nov. 13, and the Norse are challenging for the No. 3 seed. The winner of the NKU/Missouri-St. Louis match will be the No. 3 seed and likely meet Southern Indiana – the probable No. 6 seed - in the first round of the GLVC Tournament. Missouri-St. Louis (19-10 overall) is also 9-3 in the GLVC and tied with NKU for third place in the league standings.
Rockhurst (8-4 in the GLVC) figures to be the No. 5 seed and likely will meet the loser of the NKU/Missouri-St. Louis match in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament. Lewis (12-0 GLVC) needs just one win to clinch the No. 1 seed and right to host the event at Romeoville, Ill.
