UIndy Sweeps Drury in GLVC Volleyball Quarterfinals

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The ninth-ranked University of Indianapolis volleyball team swept Drury in the quarterfinal round at the 2009 GLVC Volleyball Tournament on Friday afternoon. The Greyhounds (33-1), the No. 2 seed in the tournament, defeated the No. 7 seed Panthers, 25-17, 25-23, 25-17.
The Greyhounds advanced to the semifinal round of the tournament and will face No. 6 seed Southern Indiana in the first match on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Behind an 8-0 run in the first set of the match, UIndy took control early. Ahead 5-4 in the early going, the Greyhounds quickly increased the advantage to 13-4 behind a pair of kills and a block from Courtney Anglemyer and a kill and a block from Lyndsay Callahan. Anglemyer finished with nine kills and Callahan posted a team-high 10 kills.
Drury (17-13) posted a strong rally in the second set and took a 21-18 lead by virtue of a 7-1 run. Kyrie Hopkins and Ali Rook each had a pair of kills in the Panthers run. However, UIndy responded by outscoring Drury 7-2 down the stretch. Callahan posted three kills and Kourtney Crawford added a kill on set-point for the Greyhounds.
UIndy’s balanced attack continued in the third set as the Greyhounds received three kills apiece from Crawford and Anglemyer in the decisive set. Crawford finished with eight kills and four blocks in the match.
Drury was led in the contest by Rook and Kayla Hellebusch who posted 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
