Maryville Women Fall to Lincoln for Second Time This Season

ST. LOUIS-The Lincoln University women's basketball team completed the season sweep against Maryville Monday night with its 67-54 win. The two teams met earlier this season in Jefferson City, Mo. which Lincoln won 82-67.

With the win, the Blue Tigers improved to 3-4 overall while the Saints fall to 2-5 on the year.

Freshman Angela Pepowski (Wausau, Wis.) led the Saints with her 12 points. Classmates Kristy Frey (Highland, Ill.) and Abby Duethman (Kansas City, Mo.) were the next leading scorers as they each chipped in nine points. Frey's point total set a new career-best.

Sophomore Tori Tyner (Imperial, Mo.) led Maryville on the glass with her seven rebounds.

Lincoln took the 3-2 lead just under two minutes into the game and never looked back. The Blue Tigers extended their margin to as many as 16 points but Maryville was able to cut it down to six points late in the second half.

Three players finished in the double figures for Lincoln. Quenita Washington had a team-high 17 points and Liere Dancy and Stacey Smith contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The Saints return to the court Saturday when they host non-conference opponent, Truman State University, at 2 p.m.
