BOX SCORE

FAYETTE, Iowa - Senior Kelly Dianis (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) moved into second all-time in career 3-pointers and junior Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill/Johnsburg) scored her 1,000th career point in Lewis' 73-71 loss at non-conference foe Upper Iowa on Monday evening.

Freshman Sam Rinehart (Marion, Iowa/Marion) drained a 3-pointer with 12:06 remaining to give Lewis a 49-40 lead, their largest advantage of the game. The Flyers stayed in front until the Peacocks' Kenya Howard made a jumper to give Upper Iowa a 57-56 lead with less than seven minutes left.

The lead changed hands six times and the game was tied on five occasions the rest of the way. Lewis trailed by two when Turpel earned a trip to the charity stripe with 17 seconds left. The junior sunk both to tie the game at 71 but Howard made a jumper in the paint with four seconds remaining to give the game to the Peacocks.

"We didn't play well enough to win tonight," head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "We had our opportunities and didn't take advantage. Give Upper Iowa credit, they played well tonight."

Lewis led by as many as six points in the first half but an Upper Iowa basket at the first half buzzer tied the score at 30 going into the break.

Dianis made three treys, moving her career total to 176, passing Bonnie Richrath's (1990-94) 173. Dianis finished with 15 points. Turpel's 19 points gave her 1,014 for her career. She added 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.

Lewis made 23-of-61 (37.7 percent) attempts from the field. Upper Iowa shot 29-of-57 (50.9 percent). Howard finished with 30 points for Upper Iowa.

Upper Iowa improves to 1-9, Lewis falls to 6-5. The Flyers return to conference play with a road contest at Northern Kentucky on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for noon CT.
