Quincy Men Continue Win Streak

Quincy, Ill. The Quincy University men's basketball team improved to a perfect 8-0 with a 77-62 win at home over Oakland City University. Justin Brock led the way for Quincy by tying his career high for points with 23.

Quincy started the game with a 12-0 run with Brock asserting himself early with six of the team's first 12 points. Oakland City did not get on the board until 13:42 of the first half but quickly got back into the game bringing the score to 22-19 with 8:27 on the clock. Quincy did a good job of holding the Mighty Oaks top player, Nathan Schumacher, scoreless until nine-minutes into action as the Mighty Oaks shot just 4-of-16 to start the game. The Hawks stopped the Oakland City run and took a 34-27 lead into halftime.

Quincy started the second half strong, building up an early 13 points lead at 47-34 just five-minutes in. Oakland City closed the score to within nine points on multiple occasions down the stretch but Quincy held off any run by the Mighty Oaks and picked up the 77-62 win.

Quincy shot 47-percent from the field while holding Oakland City to just 38-percent shooting, including just 23-percent shooting from beyond the arc. Brock led all scorers with 23 points while Mookie Pierre finished with 16 points and seven rebounds and Billy Baptist added 14 points and eight rebounds.

Quincy is now 8-0 on the season and is receiving votes in the latest NABC Coaches Poll. They return next weekend when they host the Quincy University/Subway Holiday Tournament from December 19-20. Teams will include Quincy, Truman State, Mesa State and Central State with games scheduled for 3 and 5:15 p.m. each day.
