UMSL Men Dominate 5-1 Win Over Harding

ST. LOUIS, MO. - Juniors Kyle Wogtech and Alex Agne each scored two goals to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer team to a 5-1 non-conference victory over visiting Harding Tuesday afternoon at Don Dallas Field.

The Tritons notched their second straight win, improving to 3-2-2 on the season, while Harding slips to 2-8.

Wogtech recorded his first goal of the season just one minute 34 seconds into the second half to tie the game at 1-1 when he found the back of the net off a free kick by junior Justin Barwick.

Senior Chris Clarkin followed two minutes later with the eventual game-winner, off a pass from senior Blair Spencer.

Agne then scored two consecutive goals, netting the first one in 75th minute and the second one in the 77th minute. He dribbled down the middle of the box after receiving the ball from Wogtech for the first score before junior Jack McKenna found him on the right wing for his second tally.

McKenna and Wogtech got together for the final goal of the game, when Wogtech scored from inside the box at the 78:00 minute mark off a pass from McKenna.

The Tritons held a commanding 27-6 advantage in shots, including a 17-2 edge in the second half, and an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Harding took a 1-0 lead into halftime after the Bison’s Rhon Royer drilled the ball into the back of the net from the left wing on a pass from the middle.

Sophomore keeper Tim Boruff recorded the win, playing all 45 minutes of the second half, while freshman goalie Adam Giesegh spent his first minutes of the season between the posts, recording two saves in the first 45 minutes of action. Boruff had one save.

Sophomore Johnny O’Mara recorded a team-high six shots, followed by Agne who took four. Wogtech and senior Ryan South each fired three shots with Wogtech landing all three on goal.

UMSL continues a three-game homestand Friday, hosting Quincy in Great Lakes Valley Conference action at 7 p.m.
