NKU Falls to Visiting SIUE, 56-53

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team lost to visiting SIU Edwardsville on Wednesday night, 56-53, in a non-conference game at the Bank of Kentucky Center. SIUE's Ashley Bey hit a pair of free throws with 36 seconds to play to give the Cougars (3-15) the late lead and canned two more to secure the win in the final seconds.
Northern Kentucky (9-6) held the Cougars to a 25 percent effort from the field in the first half (8-32), but SIUE erased the 25-20 Norse halftime lead by connecting on 46.2 percent of its field goal attempts in the second half (12-26).
The Norse, who shot 36.7 percent from the field, were led by Casse Mogan who posted a game-high 16 points. Mogan helped the Norse put together a run in the final minutes and converted a jumper with 45 seconds to play prior to Bey's free throws to give the Norse a 53-52 lead.
Teammate Rachel Lantry added 13 points and seven rebounds and Sadie Bowling added 11 points for the Norse.
Bey posted 12 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Cougars and Melia Duncan led the visitors with a team-high 14 points.
SIUE outrebounded the Norse, 40-36, and forced the Norse into 15 turnovers.
Northern Kentucky will return to league action and host UW-Parkside on Saturday at 1 p.m. Eastern.
