Rockhurst Falls Short at Home, 58-54

KANSAS CITY - Upper Iowa held off a pair of Rockhurst runs in the second half to edge the Hawks 58-54 Wednesday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Hawks went on a 10-0 run to pull within one point, 38-37, with 8:48 left in the game. An 11-3 run in the final two minutes helped Rockhurst pull within three points, 57-54, in the final seconds.

Ali Fromm scored two three-point plays to cut Upper Iowa's 11-point lead to 54-49 with 1:14 left. She also hit a 3-point shot to pull Rockhurst with a point of the Peacocks at the 5:55 mark.

Fromm led the Hawks with 14 points on five-of-16 shooting. Valerie Zamora posted seven points and five rebounds. Meghan Hurley collected seven points, four assists and two blocks. Eli Medina added a team-high six rebounds.

The Hawks jumped out to a 14-6 lead in the first eight minutes and led 25-24 at halftime. Upper Iowa scored the first 11 points of the second half.

Rockhurst, 6-13 overall and 2-9 in the GLVC, return to conference play at Missouri-St. Louis on 1 p.m. Saturday.
