UMSL takes 2-0 win over Upper Iowa

ST. LOUIS, MO.- Juniors David Schwer and Evan Schumacher each scored goals as the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team posted a 2-0 victory over visiting Upper Iowa University Tuesday night in non-conference action.

The Tritons improve to 6-5-2 overall, winning their second straight, while Upper Iowa falls to 6-6-2.

USML dominated the contest, out-shooting its guests, 29-10, including 13-5 in the first half of action. However, Peacocks goalie Jordan Bell kept the home team in check with seven saves in the first half.

Schwer broke the scoreless game in the 50th minute, knocking the ball past Bell from the right wing off a one-touch pass from junior Almin Sabotic. It was Schwer's third goal of the year.

Schumacher added an insurance goal with just under 30 minutes to play, tapping the ball into the open net for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Senior Adam Giesegh notched his fifth shutout of the year, recording five saves in all 90 minutes of action.

Sophomore Jordan Bruce led the Tritons with five shots, placing four on target.

UMSL returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference action Friday, traveling to Kentucky Wesleyan for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
