CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.- The Quincy University women's soccer team went on the road to close out their 2010 regular season and did so with an impressive 2-0 win over NCAA Division I foe Southeast Missouri State University. Leading the way for Quincy was the trio of Erin Conroy, Brittany Casey and Jodi Chapie.
The Quincy offense was on top of their game from the start getting off the game's first five shots and putting four of the five shots on goal. SEMO had a flurry mid-way through the first-half, getting off three shots in an 18-second span, but the Lady Hawk back line was able to block all three shots.
Quincy's best chance of the first-half came at the 36-minute mark when Brittany Casey put a head ball off a corner-kick on net but was stopped. Quincy out shot SEMO 8-6 in the first-half including 5-0 in shots on goal.
Quincy was finally able to breakthrough at the 66-minute mark when defender Erin Conroy netted her third goal of the season. Conroy received a pass from Jaclyn Mastroianni and buried the shot from the left side of the box to put Quincy up 1-0. The Lady Hawks got an insurance goal just 12-minute later when Brittany Casey ripped a shot from the top of the box for her seventh goal of the season with Kristine Vogt assisting on the goal.
The Lady Hawk defense withstood a push from the Redhawks in the second-half and limited SEMO to 14 shots in the game including just two shots on goal. Quincy finished the game with 19 shots and nine shots on goal. Quincy goalkeeper Jodi Chapie made two saves in recording her seventh shutout of the season.
Quincy improves to 12-3-3 overall and has now won four consecutive games, all shutouts. The shutout is Quincy's 13th of the season tying the school record for most shutouts in a season which they set last year. The Lady Hawks return to action on Sunday, October 31st when they host Missouri S&T in the first-round of the 2010 Great Lakes Valley Conference. Quincy is the #3 seed in the tournament while Missouri S&T is the #6 seed. Game time is set for 12 p.m. at North Campus Field.
