GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Cole Galloway found a way to get to the net on Tuesday night in Grand Rapids, Michigan as he helped the Saint Joseph's College men's soccer team to its sixth victory of the season. SJC extended its winning streak to three matches by disposing of Aquinas College 2-1 in double overtime.
The Saints (9-3) applied mild pressure to Puma keeper Mike Korman who made three saves in a scoreless first half. Nevertheless, in the second half Desmond Scott got behind the AC defense in the 68th minute to convert the game's first score and give the Pumas (6-3-1) a 1-0 lead.
However, the Saints broke through in the 88th minute as Mike Vaughn's shot passed the outstretched hands of Alex Makin to tie the match and force an extra period.
Kevin Amaizo misfired on a penalty kick in the first overtime period as 100 minutes was not enough to decide a winner. In the 104th minute of the match Galloway beat the Saints line of defense and turned Shane McNally's lead pass into the game winner.
The Pumas will return to Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday evening against the University of Illinois Springfield. The match at Kiwanis Stadium is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. CDT.
