HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The fourth-ranked Northern Kentucky men's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 victory over visiting West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon in a NCAA National Quarterfinal match. With the victory, the Norse (18-2-3) have earned a trip to the National Semifinal hosted in conjunction with NCAA D-II National Fall Festival at Bellarmine University on Dec. 1-4.
Senior Steven Beattie broke a scoreless haftime tie early in the second half with a goal in the 50th minute. He was assisted on the game-winner by Anthony Meyer.
Freshman Michael Holder provided the Norse a 2-0 advantage at the 66:02 mark by scoring his 13th goal of the season on a header from a Beattie assist.
Beattie iced the contest just 20 seconds later as he converted his 24th goal of the season on an assist from Jordan Kotsopoulus.
NKU outshot West Virginia Wesleyan (16-6-2) 16-6, including a 4-3 advantage on shots on goal.
Michael Lavric earned the shutout in goal for the Norse by recording a pair of saves.
NKU will face No. 10 Dowling (12-1-6) in the National Semfinals on Dec. 2. No. 2 Midwestern State (19-0-2) and No. 5 Rollins (14-3-3) will meet in the other semifinal.
