Wisconsin-Parkside hoopsters down Wayne State

SOMERS, Wis.- Neither team scored in the first two-and-a-half minutes of a women's basketball game in the DeSimone Gymnasium Sunday afternoon. After Brittany Beyer scored to break the double goose egg, Wayne State took early control, but the Rangers charged back for a 77-60 victory.

Wayne State led 12-4 early and headed the game at 22-14 with 8 minutes left in the first half. But, then the Ranger charge began.

Jadee Rooney hit two three-point shots from the left corner, the second of which pulled the Rangers  within one at 24-23. Beyer knotted the game at 29-29 with a bank shot underneath and then Brittany Hogen scored a foul-and-one to put the Rangers up for good.

Parkside led, 39-30 at half. The lead eclipsed 20 for the first time with 3:23 to go at 70-49. The Rangers led by as many as 23.

Hogen led the Rangers with 17 points. Beyer added 16 and Rooney threw in 15.

Parkside out-rebounded Wayne State, 41-28.

The Rangers are now 3-0 on the young season. Wayne State fell to 0-4.

Parkside will face a tough test in its next contest, at Grand Valley State Saturday, Nov, 27, at noon CST.
